Who is Alice Guo's 'mother'?

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian revealed a strong possibility that embattled Bamban Mayor Alice Guo's mother is Chinese, suggesting that the "Amelia Leal" previously introduced by Guo as her mother might be a figment of her imagination. This information about her mother is crucial as it determines whether Guo is a Filipino citizen or not.

Documents made public by Sen. Risa Hontiveros show the possible link between Guo and "Lin Wen Yi," who is being surmised as the local official's biological mother. "If her mother is Chinese, and her father is said to be Chinese, it can be proven that the Mayor is not really Filipino," Hontiveros said.

Following the controversies surrounding Guo's birth documents, Gatchalian emphasized the need to refine the country's birth certificate processes and system. He noted that it is alarming that with the use of a birth certificate, a certain individual may run for government office.

Hontiveros also defended the ongoing probe against accusations of it being a "witch hunt" and a prelude to attacks on other Chinese-Filipinos, emphasizing that this is about national security and accountability in public service. She made the response after Filipino-Chinese civic leader Teresita Ang-See made such remarks.
