Arrest warrant vs Duterte?

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Solicitor General are preparing a legal briefer so President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. can weigh in on several options in case the International Criminal Court (ICC) issues a warrant against former President Rodrigo Duterte and several others.

This comes after former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV revealed that the ICC is expected to issue an arrest warrant against former President Duterte and others by June or July, based on information from individuals privy to the investigation conducted by the ICC's Office of the Prosecutor.

Assistant Justice Secretary Mico Clavano stated that the Marcos administration is considering "all legal options," including rejoining the Rome Statute. He also mentioned that the legal brief being prepared would provide an "objective analysis of the pros and cons of each option" to guide President Marcos in his decision-making process.

However, Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil clarified that President Marcos maintains the same position regarding the Philippines' return to the international tribunal. Garafil added that it is the duty of the DOJ to explore all legal avenues and ensure that the President is fully informed of his options.
