Finally arrested

After a months-long manhunt, dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo was finally arrested in Tangerang City, Jakarta, Indonesia, at around 1:30 a.m. on September 4, the Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation confirmed, citing information from Senior Superintendent Audie Latuheru of the Indonesian Police.

Chartered flight RP-C6188, carrying Guo, landed in Pasay City at 1:10 a.m. on Friday, two days after her arrest in Indonesia. She was accompanied by Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police Chief General Rommel Marbil.

Though Abalos and Marbil were there to facilitate Guo's deportation, their participation sparked controversy when their seemingly "friendly" pictures with Guo went viral. Sen. Risa Hontiveros even remarked: "Si Alice Guo ay pugante. Hindi po 'yan celebrity."

Despite recent developments, Guo's return to the Philippines reportedly met a setback as Indonesia allegedly wants a swap with drug trafficker Gregor Johann Haas. But the Bureau of Immigration said that the wanted Australian man is not up for deportation yet because he is still facing charges in the Philippines.
