Duterte dares ICC

In his first-ever appearance at the House quad committee hearing, Former President Rodrigo Duterte boldly challenged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to immediately begin its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during his administration's anti-drug campaign, saying he might die before the probe even begins.

The Palace immediately released a statement following Duterte's pronouncement, saying the Marcos government will "neither object to" nor "move to block" the former president should he choose to surrender himself to the ICC.

Tensions also briefly rose during the latter part of the congressional probe into the past administration's drug war when Duterte threatened to slap, and eventually hit, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with a microphone.

Duterte was provoked when Trillanes challenged him to sign a bank secrecy waiver after the former senator reiterated claims that the former president's bank accounts, along with those of his relatives, were allegedly linked to drug lords.
