Trump's comeback

Republican Donald Trump was elected president, capping a remarkable comeback four years after he was voted out of the White House and ushering in a new American leadership likely to test democratic institutions at home and relations abroad. Trump, 78, recaptured the presidency by securing more than 270 Electoral College votes, defeating Democrat Kamala Harris.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his congratulations to Trump, adding that he looks forward to working with the re-elected president. Marcos expressed eagerness to work with Trump on a variety of issues that interest both the Philippines and the US.

Malacañang is confident that Washington's commitments to Manila under President Joe Biden will continue under the new administration. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that the Philippines is prepared to work with Trump.

Senate President Francis Escudero also addressed the change in US' leadership, noting that while he cannot foretell what Trump may or may not do, he still saw how Philippine-US ties went well during his previous leadership.
