There's two-time MVP Myla Pablo, whose resurgence has provided Petro Gazz with a solid backup to Van Sickle. Jonah Sabete has proven her worth too and don't forget the reliable veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas in the wings. The chess match between Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses and Petro Gazz mentor Koji Tsuzurabara in formulating the right mix for the better of their team in the final stretch of the longest PVL tournament ever will also be put in the spotlight in this finals series. Meneses has a rising playmaker in Kyle Negrito, who emerged as the league's Best Setter and Finals MVP last year, while Tsuzurabara has a pair of equally talented setters in Chie Saet and Djanel Cheng. Both squads are also armed with formidable frontlines with Creamline banking on Bea De Leon and Pangs Panaga and Petro Gazz boasting MJ Phillips and fit-again Ranya Musa under the guidance and leadership of captain Remy Palma. The Cool Smashers have decorated liberos in Denden Lazaro-Revilla and Kyla Atienza but the Angels have gritty floor defenders in BLove Barbon and Jellie Tempiatura. In the two rivals' first finals meeting, Petro Gazz came out on top in the 2019 Reinforced Conference before Creamline their next three encounters, including the 2023 First All-Filipino. They split their head-to-head matchups this conference with the Cool Smashers winning in four sets two months ago in the eliminations before the Angels returned the favor in the semifinals last week. It's tough to predict a finals that could go either way. That said, only one thing's certain at this point: the fans will be the real winners. Visit INQUIRER Sports for live updates. |
