We hosted the last faculty forum of 2021 on November 9th. The topic this month was "I Wish I Knew… Faculty Share Strategies They Learned the Hard Way."
Keith Wolaridge launched the forum by sharing his experience playing around with Canvas and learning the hard way how to save pages. He also gave a shout-out to the Online Teaching Courses at Bakersfield College.
Maria Wright walked us through her Canvas course and highlighted her use of short videos to explain the syllabus, provide models of assignments, and more! She shared how she became more comfortable making imperfect videos and how that can help humanize the learning experience for students. She also shared the importance of creating a backup of our course by exporting it and saving the file in a secure location.
Tatevik Broutian gave an excellent demo of Kahoot! She created a Kahoot! on Thanksgiving and gave faculty forum participants a chance to experience it from a student's perspective. If you're curious about how Kahoot! works, I would highly recommend checking out this 11-minute video.
Thank you to all of our faculty who presented and faculty who joined us! We so appreciate your willingness to share lessons you learned the hard way with your colleagues! As educators, our work is never done. Teaching is a continually iterative process and I'm thankful to be a Renegade who is continually reflecting and learning!
